Peach Model - Pyrus, Greensborough, Victoria, 1875 Object Reg. No: ST 005203

Summary:
This wax model was based on a seedling peach raised by Robert Whatmough, Greensborough in 1875. In J.C Cole's Catalogue of 1873, Whatmough's seedling Freestone is described as 'large, handsome, distince & good, very late'. In a list of Fruit Trees published by the Horticultural Gardens in Burnley in 1894 it is called "Whatmough's seedling' and 'Whatmoughs March'. It is not known who made the Model but it would have been created in 1875 soon after coming to the Museum.

This peach is also listed in "The Australasian Fruit Culturist (1893) by David Alexander Crichton" as
"Whatmough's March - An excellent Peach raised in Victoria, with large fruit, which ripens very late. Skin highly coloured with red. Flesh juicy and well flavoured.
